LKO above Arctic Circle in Norway and L-KOPIA in Special Tunnel survey
Lars Lundberg on top of a snowy world on May 10th. The picture is taken on the Arctic Circle (monument behind Lars) and it is record snow this year. Harald Fjeldbu, JBV, took the picture.

LKO started the annual JBV (Norwegian Rail) clearance survey in Oslo on April 26th. LKO mounted the laser on an EM-50, a rail bound Geometry Car, which JBV hired from Swedish Rail (Banverket). The vehicle has more dynamics than some of the other rail bound vehicle we used at Norwegian Rail. However, as we scan 360 degrees and can see the rails at each measuring location, LKO’s software does auto centering and auto height adjustment in “DryRun” mode.

LKO surveyed over 3,000 kilometer (1,875 Miles) on JBV tracks. We started with three (3) night shifts in the greater Oslo area, but the main survey was from Kongsvinger to Bodö. It took us 13 straight shifts to survey up to Bodö and back to Oslo. Bodö is the northern end of JBV Main Lines. There is the Ore Line from Kiruna Sweden to Narvik, Norway north of Bodö, but there is no rail connection between Bodö and Narvik.

LKO continued its major clearance and track center survey for Swedish Rail (Banverket). Both Lasse Ericsson in our Mitsubishi L200 Hy-Rail vehicle and Per Arne Pettersson in our Tri Star Hy-Rail truck where out in southern Sweden performing planned surveys.

The Danish Rail Ballast Survey took a short break for maintenance of the Danish laser carrier vehicle. LKO has so far QA checked over 520,000 ballast profiles for Danish Rail. We expect Danish Rail to start the survey again within a few days.

The L-KOPIA crew Gary Mitchell and Jason Gore finished phase two of our major U.S. clearance survey in North Dakota in the end of April. After a short break, L-KOPIA was called out to Washington State for a major tunnel survey. This was not a planned project. The customer needs very quick answers on some double stack clearances in tunnels. L-KOPIA surveyed 14 tunnels (10 miles of tunnel) from Seattle, WA to the Western part of Idaho in four days. L-KOPIA delivered PDF plots via e-mail (some were also printed on site for Roadmasters and crews). The L-KOPIA plots includes minimum distances from selected template and the structures (in this case tunnels and one TT Bridge)
